Houston Public Radio Raises More than $1.1 Million

Houston Public Radio’s two on-air fundraising campaigns concluded recently, netting a total of $948,978 for KUHF-FM and a total of $217,722 for KUHA-FM. The nine-day, on-air fundraising effort was the first since the organization launched both a full-time news station and full-time classical music station.

During two and half days of the campaign, contributors also had the opportunity to support other Houston-area charities – Trees for Houston and Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels. Trees for Houston Day allowed public radio contributors the option to forego their typical member thank-you gift, with Houston Public Radio then donating the cash value of that thank-you gift toward watering local trees. The effort raised support to save more than 4,536 trees in the Greater Houston Area. Meals on Wheels Day contributors provided 4,841 freshly prepared meals for local home-bound seniors.

Corporate and nonprofit partners were key contributors to the success, bringing incentive challenges and gifts during the campaign including Brazos Bookstore, Genesis, GDF Suez, GB Tubulars, Matthews and Associates, NRG Energy, Reliant, Past Era Fine Antique Jewelry and Toyota Rent-a-Car Houston. Other supporters include The Rand Group, Technip, the Houston Symphony, the Alley Theater, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at UH, the Moores School of Music at UH, Houston Grand Opera, the Meineke Car Care College Bowl, the Galveston Historical Foundation, the Grand 1894 Opera House, the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, Society for the Performing Arts, Theater Under the Stars, Stages Repertory Theater, Houston Chamber Choir, Opera in the Heights, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Armand Bayou Nature Center and the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
